Keep playing the game. Sell everything and buy nothing.

Depends on the item. Selling to the merchant is easier and less time consuming. I wouldn't bother selling to people unless it is a rare item.

Don't necessarily sell everything...
Identification and Salvage tips:

Always have identification on you. Whenever you identify an item, you have a chance of unlocking something (when you get into PvP, this is helpful). Plus, sometimes you discover "precious" items, which are well worth it. A salvage kit is mainly useful when you're on a long journey or mission. When you are running out of room, salvage the things you can tell will not sell for much, or reasonably low-value items that will breakdown into craft materials that come in handy for your class. But don't go too crazy on salvaging. You can buy materials. Also, I made the mistake early on of trying to save up for every new armor type that the next merchant sold. If money flow is not happening, then try to live with your old armor for awhile longer, and make use of your brain/skill to get by. Once you get to the spot where max armor is sold, you'll be glad you saved up on the money. Lastly, when you get far enough and can afford it, expert salvage kits are primarily used to extract runes and weapon pieces related to your class. (note- you cannot equip runes for secondary class). Make sure the weapon you are salvaging is not better than the one you are using though. Anything else, just sell. Except, watch the market on rune traders. It would be good to know which runes are extremely expensive, in which case, you will likely get a good price from extracting it.

Collectors. Keep tabs on what collectors benefit you, and save up on those items. Sell the rest. Sometimes you can get comparable (slightly lesser) armor pieces from collectors much cheaper than a town armorer.

Also, first thing you should invest your money in are packs and pack upgrades. The extra storage will improve your income.

Oh yeah, and then there's your guild.
